Connect Gemini to Stuff
Use Gemini's Custom apps flow in the web app. This guide covers consumer Gemini; workspace-managed Google accounts can have different capabilities. You do not need Node.js, a repository checkout, claude_desktop_config.json or a local MCP configuration for this browser flow.
If Gemini cannot open the setup link, use the steps below directly. The guide is public; a fetch failure is not evidence that Stuff requires authentication to read it. In an October 5, 2026 test, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite failed to read the public guide and offered incorrect local setup instructions. A Pro retry produced mixed results, so changing models alone is not a verified fix. The connection-settings route below remains the intended path.
Add the connection
- Open Settings → Connected Apps. This may be under Personal Intelligence.
- Under Custom apps, choose Add custom app.
- Enter
https://stuff.ac/mcpand choose Next. Leave optional client credentials empty; Stuff supports automatic registration. - Review Gemini's notice, sign in to Stuff, and approve only the spaces and permissions needed.
- In a conversation, use
@to select Stuff explicitly.
Google currently documents this flow for eligible personal accounts in the US, age 18+, English, with Keep Activity on. Google says a connection added on web is available on mobile too; we have not independently verified mobile setup here. Review the implications of activity settings before changing them. Google's eligibility and setup instructions.
Actual October 1 setup screen. “This MCP server is already connected” is expected when Stuff is already present. Use its existing entry; do not create duplicates.
Try it
@Stuff.ac Read Project Lantern.md from my connected space and summarize its brief. Give me the file link. Do not change anything.
Then try the two-assistant handoff. Gemini's Stuff connection has been exercised with reads, file creation, exact edits, version checks, and denial outside the selected space. Interactive in-chat rendering has not been verified here; expect tool results and a link to the Stuff viewer.
Inspect and disconnect
Open Stuff's details under Connected Apps. Gemini displays its connection state and available tools. Disconnect stops using the connection in Gemini; Remove app removes the app entry. Revoke the matching grant in Stuff → Agents as well when you want to ensure future Stuff requests are denied.
The existing connection was left intact. The separate demo-key revocation was tested in Stuff; see the before/after walkthrough.
Gemini's notice describes exchanges of chat and other context with custom apps. Your Stuff permissions limit which Stuff resources can be accessed; they do not replace Google's own data controls or policies.
