Connect Cursor to Stuff
Use the Stuff plugin to combine files in Stuff with local code and four workflow skills, around the same permissioned MCP tools. Plugins versus connectors.
1. Install
Download and extract the coding-agent bundle. Copy its stuff-ac/plugins/stuff-ac folder to:
~/.cursor/plugins/local/stuff-ac
Review any existing installation before replacing it. Restart Cursor or use Developer: Reload Window. Open Customize and select the local Stuff plugin.
You should see one MCP server and four skills: handoff, local-folder, project-context, and safe-edit.
This is Cursor 3.22. Needs authentication is expected before signing in. Cursor can discover plugins from other supported locations too; if multiple Stuff entries appear, inspect their source and use one connection. Official local-plugin instructions.
2. Connect
Choose Authenticate next to Stuff's MCP server. In the browser, verify the Stuff account, choose Only spaces I choose, select a test space and choose its permissions. Review and approve, then return to Cursor.
This real form was opened by the local Cursor plugin, captured before approval. It selects read/write for the fictional Project Lantern space and no sharing-management permission. After approval, Customize showed the connection enabled:
Tool counts can change as Stuff develops. An enabled status is the first check; a fresh read is the useful test.
3. Try project context
In a new agent chat:
Use Stuff's project-context skill to read Project Lantern.md. Suggest a launch-page outline using it as context. Give me the source link. Do not edit any files yet.
Then try the completed three-assistant handoff. Ask for safe-edit, local-folder or handoff when appropriate.
MCP-only alternative
For tools without the plugin, merge this into your personal ~/.cursor/mcp.json, preserving existing entries:
{
"mcpServers": {
"stuff": {"url": "https://stuff.ac/mcp"}
}
}
Open Customize → MCPs and authenticate. Choose either the plugin's server or a direct server. Keep keys out of shared files. Managed workspaces may restrict local plugins; use an approved configuration rather than bypassing policy.
Cloud Agents have separate configuration. Connecting the IDE does not prove a cloud agent is configured. Cursor Cloud Agent capabilities.
Disconnect
Disable/uninstall the plugin, remove any separate direct MCP entry, and revoke the matching connection in Stuff → Agents. Uninstalling alone does not revoke a credential. Revocation walkthrough.
Verification, October 1, 2026: Cursor 3.22 authenticated the local plugin for Project Lantern, loaded safe-edit, read Codex's version 2, appended one line with a version guard, and read version 3 back. After we revoked its Stuff grant, a fresh read returned Unauthorized. The handoff and revocation screenshots show the actual chat. This direct-install package has not been approved for Cursor's public marketplace.
